How to sew a winter sun skirt. Half-sun skirt pattern

The skirt is a ring without seams, the inner diameter of which is equal to the waist circumference. Calculating the pattern for creating a stylish circle skirt is simple; such clothes retain a classic cut. During its existence, this simple product has not lost its relevance: it looks great on overweight girls and on “skinny” girls, masks imperfections in the figure and highlights advantages.

A sun skirt is a noticeable item of clothing; it will definitely highlight your personality and help you stand out from the crowd. It is important to choose a harmonious environment for her. This item goes well with satin blouses, turtlenecks, lace tops, and shirts with a stand-up collar. But sports-style T-shirts and T-shirts should be avoided. We also exclude fluffy tops and small patterns. They do not fit at all with a feminine wardrobe item. Shoes that are simple and elegant are suitable: classic shoes - high-heeled pumps - are ideal.

The mini model will look great on girls with narrow hips and an inconspicuous waist. In the summer, a short skirt - the sun is especially relevant. For medium-length skirts, high-heeled shoes are required. If this condition is met, the elegance of the image will go off scale. The best outfit for the office, an example of business style. The maxi length is appropriate for tall girls in the summer.

We study step-by-step calculation of a circle skirt pattern in a master class

Taking measurements:

  • Waist circumference (WC);
  • Skirt length (DU).

We remember the formulas and do the calculations.

The skirt pattern - the sun is a full circle with a cutout in the middle.

The basic formula for constructing a pattern is extremely simple: L = 2? R.

  • Circumference length (L) = waist circumference (WC) plus an increase for a comfortable fit.
  • Number? = 3.14. We know this from a school mathematics course.
  • Let's rewrite the formula: FROM = 2? 3.14? R 1.
  • We substitute known quantities into the formula. So we will calculate the figure for the radius of a small circle corresponding to the OT measure (we take into account the increase). R 1 = FROM? 6.28.
  • The resulting circumference will be the waist line.

Pay attention to the photo:

The blue short arrow will be the radius of the small inner circle (R1) or the waist line.

The orange arrow symbolically indicates the length of the skirt (DL). It can only be limited by the width of the fabric.

  • In a product without seams DU = ? canvas width – R 1 – 5 cm (for a loose fit).

For example, fabric width = 150 cm. Then maximum DN = 59 cm. The purple arrow indicates this in the diagram.

  • Fabric consumption for the skirt - sun without seams = 2 DU + 25 cm + 4 cm (for a loose fit).
  • Fabric consumption for a two-seam skirt = 4 DU + allowance for a comfortable fit.

There are many photos and video tutorials on the Internet on how to carry out calculations and cut out skirts - the sun. Videos will also be posted at the end of this article. Those interested can familiarize themselves and take them as a basis when starting work. These are simple constructions, the main thing is to understand the principles and patterns. And everything will definitely work out.

Sewing a skirt - the sun:
  • Baste and stitch the side seams (if there are any).
  • Leave part of the seam open for the zipper (if provided). Otherwise, a wide elastic band is threaded into the belt of the product.
  • Let's attach the clasp.
  • We will sew the hem of the skirt with an overlock stitch, a zigzag stitch or a hem stitch.

Important.

Fabric cut on the bias tends to stretch. To process it correctly, you need a certain skill. Therefore, it is recommended to first sweep the cut, and only then lay the stitch.

We are studying a master class on making a circle skirt for a girl

Models of children's things are simpler to make. Therefore, we will master the work by sewing a skirt for a girl with our own hands.

Materials for creativity:

  • Main fabric;
  • Decorative braid;
  • Threads with a needle;
  • Scissors;
  • Sewing machine;
  • Tailor's pins and chalk.

Children's size chart:

Taking measurements and creating a pattern were described earlier. Let's look at cutting and sewing the product step by step.

We fold the material in four and fasten it with tailor's pins for convenience. Using a centimeter, we plot the radius of the small circle from the main angle. We mark the hem of the skirt in a similar way. We cut out the details.

The belt of the sun skirt has two versions:

  • Yoke (high belt);
  • Rubber.

It’s easier to decorate a belt with an elastic band, so it’s better to learn from this option.

We make a belt - an elastic band with our own hands.

Elastic bands come in different widths and colors. We choose any one. The main condition: the girl must be comfortable.

  • Elastic length = FROM – 5 cm.
  • We bend the bottom edge of the product inward, to the width of the elastic.
  • We process the edge, leaving 1.5 cm to insert our decorative belt.
  • We pull in the elastic replacement belt and sew the ends together.

We process the hem with decorative braid and iron it.

The sun skirt for the girl is ready.

As you can see, the sun skirt is varied and unique, like all our changing fashion. Be sure to sew yourself an original item and keep up with the times.

A selection of video materials for creativity

You can sew a skirt of any length. In our master class, we chose a long circle skirt.

How to build a circle skirt

A circle skirt is one of the options for a flared skirt. It is built on the basis of a circle. You can make your own circle skirt pattern using our master class. A step-by-step illustrated master class will tell you how to correctly take measurements, make calculations for construction and design a long circle skirt, a half-circle skirt and a flared skirt based on 1/6 of a circle.

Step 1

We cut 2 halves of the “sun” and a belt, taking into account the allowances for the side seams and the hem of the bottom - 1.5 cm, and for the upper section of the skirt and the belt - 1 cm.

Step 2

Using an overlocker, we overcast the side sections of the front and back panels along the front side.

Step 3

Sew the right side seam 1.3 cm from the edge.

Step 4

Iron the side seam.

Step 5

Cut a strip of adhesive fabric or non-woven fabric 4 cm wide and equal to the length of the belt.

Step 6

We duplicate the belt part with adhesive fabric.

Step 7

Fold the belt piece in half (along the long side) with the adhesive fabric inward and iron it.

Step 8

We overcast one long section of the belt piece using an overlocker (along the front side).

Step 9

We lay two lines with large stitches along the front and back panels along the waist line at 0.7 and 1 cm from the edge (for fit).

Step 10

Lightly gather the front and back panels of the skirt on two lines along the waist line to the length of the belt.

Step 11

We sew the belt (with an unsewn cut) to the seated panels of the skirt 1 cm from the edge.

Step 12

Iron the seam allowances toward the waistband.

Step 13

We pin a hidden zipper onto the front panel of the skirt “face to face”, the edge of the fastener coincides with the middle (upper) fold of the belt.

Step 14

We sew the zipper to the front panel of the long circle skirt. We use a special foot for a hidden zipper.

Step 15

We pin a hidden zipper onto the back panel of the skirt “face to face”, the edge of the fastener coincides with the middle (upper) fold of the belt. We check whether the stitching seam of the belt matches when we fasten the zipper.

Step 16

We sew the zipper to the front panel of the skirt.

Step 17

Sew the side seam of the circle skirt from the bottom to the zipper, making a tack at the base of the zipper.

Step 18

Iron the side seam.

Step 19

Fold the end of the belt along the top fold line face to face (turn it inside out).

We sew the outer and inner halves of the belt, laying a line in the line of attaching the zipper, or retreating from it 1 mm towards the cut.

Turn the end of the belt inside out and iron it. We repeat the same with the other end of the belt.

Step 20

Pin or baste the inside of the waistband to the skirt. We adjust it by placing a stitch along the front side of the skirt into the seam of the waistband.

Step 21

Iron the belt.

Step 22

Level the bottom from the floor. It is best to do this on the figure for which we are sewing the skirt, but it can also be done on a mannequin.

Step 23

Fold and iron the bottom of the skirt.

Step 24

We hem the bottom of the circle skirt with a closed hem seam.

Step 25

Iron the bottom of the skirt.

The long circle skirt is ready!

You can also sew.

Sewing a half-sun skirt with your own hands is not difficult and will take about 4 hours.

This type of clothing is one of the most popular items in women's wardrobe.

The cut of the skirt is a fluffy, airy, voluminous structure with a large number of folds.

Of course, a drawing of such a skirt is easy to find and download on the Internet, but it will be useful if you learn how to construct a pattern for a half-sun skirt with one and two seams yourself; instructions for this are available in our article. To learn how to calculate fabric consumption and know how to sew a skirt step by step for both girls and older girls, watch the master class and training videos at the end of the article.

There are many styles: short or long half-sun skirt, made of heavy or light fabric. This is not the first year that such floor-length skirts have been fashionable. A distinctive feature of this wardrobe item is that it is suitable for almost any body type.

This is why women love this wardrobe item so much! The half-sun skirt looks good on both thin and plump girls (when using light flowing fabrics).

The skirt itself can be described as “ semicircle"with a hole in the center, which is different from the circle skirt, which is a full circle. As you walk, the skirt flows elegantly, making the look romantic and elegant. Please note that in strong winds such a skirt can rise very high and expose your legs.

Sewing tools you need to have:

The list contains the basic tools of a tailor, without which a quality item cannot be produced.

How to choose fabric for sewing a half-sun skirt

In order for the skirt to look airy and weightless, you need to use light natural fabrics that will fall in charming folds. At the same time, the skirt will not look too fluffy.

You can even sew from very light, airy fabrics long two-layer skirts, combining different colors. In summer, linen, cotton, denim, gabardine, light knitwear, viscose, silk, and polyester are suitable. For colder periods, fabrics based on wool and thick knitwear are suitable. It is recommended to sew a short semi-sun skirt from heavy fabric. This skirt will keep its shape well.

It is better for novice tailors not to sew a skirt like this materials like chiffon, fur, velvet, jacquard, satin, leather. It is also not recommended to use materials with complex geometric patterns. For now, leave this to more experienced craftsmen.

How much fabric do you need for a half-sun skirt?

For a half-sun you need a lot of fabric, usually more than 2 meters. But everything, of course, depends on the style. To calculate the amount of fabric, you first need to decide on the length of the skirt. To do this, you need to take 2 measurements: waist circumference and product length.

  • In order to correctly measure your waist circumference, you need to tightly wrap a measuring tape around the narrowest part of your torso (or the level where you are supposed to wear a skirt). The tape should not be very loose, but it should not be very tight either.
  • In order to measure the length of the skirt, you need to lower the measuring tape along the side line from the waist level. The tape should reach the place where the end of the hem is supposed to be. It is important to stand calmly and as straight as possible. It is better to have someone help in measuring this measurement.
  • The radius of the 1st arc is equal to: Waist circumference divided by 3. If the waist circumference was 63 centimeters, then the radius of the 1st arc will be equal to 63:3 = 21 centimeters.
  • The radius of the 2nd arc is equal to: the radius of the 1st arc + the length of the product. If the length of the skirt is 120 centimeters, then the radius of the 2nd length will be equal to 21 + 120 = 141 centimeters.

Next, we calculate the amount of fabric, which will be equal to: multiply the radius of the 2nd length by 2 and add 10 centimeters (for allowances). Please note that the width of the fabric should not be less than the radius of the 2nd length.

How to build a circle skirt

Sew a half-sun is enough Just and, having enough experience, you can not use a pattern and cut it directly on the material. If you are not confident in your abilities, then it is better to start by practicing with a pattern made on paper.

  • Creating a pattern begins with marking a right angle.
  • On paper, from the corner, which is the center of the circle, draw an arc of 1st radius - this is the waist line.
  • Then the arc of the 2nd radius is drawn in the same way - this will be the bottom of the skirt.

To draw radius of this length, you can take a ribbon (or rope) and attach a pencil to its end. At the radius point, fix the beginning of the tape, and carefully draw an arc with a pencil.

Or you can make marks on the fabric at small intervals and then smoothly connect them with a line. Carefully cut out the resulting pattern using tailor's scissors.

How to cut a half-sun skirt

After the pattern is cut, you need to start cloth.

To cut, you need to fold the material in half along the grain. It is necessary to iron the fabric in advance to make it easier to work with later. We straighten the material so that the 2 layers lie flat, without creases or bevels. It is better to pin the edges of the fabric together with pins so that the material does not slip on the surface.

Carefully place the circle skirt pattern onto the fabric and trace.

Must be left allowances on the seams. First, along the edge line we mark an allowance of about 1.5-2 centimeters. Then we mark allowances along the arc of the 1st radius and along the arc of the 2nd radius - also about 1.5 centimeters.

It is important to carefully cut out all the parts.

When finished, the part of the half-sun skirt looks like half circle.

How to sew a half-sun skirt with your own hands

The sides of the half-sun skirt need to be carefully sewn along the line.

You can insert a zipper or sew a button into the upper part.

The top of the skirt itself can be folded inward and stitched or sewn on a belt with an elastic band.

It is better to wash and dry the fabric to see if “ shrinkage».

Before trying it on, it is better to let the skirt hang for several days (2-4 days). Most likely, after this you will need to draw the bottom line of the skirt again and remove the elongated parts of the skirt.

It is not advisable to use fabrics striped or into a cage, because the result can be unpredictable. It is difficult to combine the patterns with each other when stitching.

High quality textile- recipe for success. You shouldn’t skimp on the material; let it be made from natural fibers.

Be sure to iron it with an iron after finishing the seam.

For novice tailors, it is advisable to first make a pattern from cheap fabrics.

Before you start working with a sewing machine, you must carefully sweep away side the seam.

Skirt belt

For light fabrics, an elastic waistband is best. This is the easiest way to make a belt. In addition, it is suitable not only for young slender girls, but also for plump ladies. This type of belt will also be convenient for those who sit a lot and work at the computer. The belt does not squeeze the stomach and gives a feeling of comfort and freedom.

In order not to sew a belt, you can use a special elastic band 3-5 centimeters wide. To sew such a belt to a skirt, use a zigzag stitch.

The upper section of the skirt can simply be sewn with thread. To make the belt lie flat and beautiful, it is most convenient to divide it into 4-6 parts.

Do the same with the top of the skirt. Carefully connect these 2 parts with pins or threads. When you make a seam, these marks will be very helpful in making a nice, even gather on the skirt.

You need to cut the belt according to shared threads

What is the difference between a circle skirt and a half-circle skirt?

A circle skirt is almost always made from full-fledged piece of fabric and has no seams. It is 2 times more magnificent and is not suitable for everyone. The half-sun is a more versatile wardrobe item. At its core, of course, it is a variation of the sun skirt, but the cut looks “more modest” and has one side seam.

In order to learn how to sew beautifully, it is recommended for beginning seamstresses to start with a sun skirt. This skirt is very easy and quick to sew. In the process of sewing it, almost no one ever has any difficulties or questions. You can sew it yourself without the help of a professional.

To make a sun skirt with your own hands, you will need threads, needles, fabric, scissors, an elastic band of the desired thickness, a pattern and non-woven fabric. We take the size of the fabric based on the length of the future skirt.

Technique for sewing a sun skirt with an elastic band

The sun skirt looks like a circle with a hole in the center.

In order to make a pattern, you need to determine the outer and inner radius. To do this, measure the volume of the hips (B) and the length of the skirt (DI). The inner radius of the skirt is calculated using the formula R1=(B+5)/6.3cm. The outer radius is calculated using the formula R2=DI+R1.

First we make the pattern on tracing paper. To do this, fold a sheet of tracing paper in half and draw a semicircle. We place the tracing paper on top of the fabric and secure it with sewing pins. We outline the pattern with chalk or a special pencil, do not forget to leave 1 cm of fabric for seam allowances. For the belt, we cut out a strip about 6 cm wide, it should be equal to the circumference of the hips plus 5 cm. If the fabric allows, we cut out a full circle or two semicircles at once. If you have completely cut out a full circle, then we simply process the bottom seams and sew in a belt, and if we cut out a skirt in two parts, then we first sew together the details of the skirt, and then we process the bottom of the product and sew in the belt.

To make a belt from thin fabric, you should always use non-woven fabric.. It makes it possible to sew a dense belt that will not lose its shape during washing and wearing the finished product. Iron the non-woven fabric from the wrong side of the fabric. Then we fold the belt in half and sew it to the skirt so that there is a hole for the elastic. After the circle skirt is completely ready, insert the elastic and iron each seam in the finished product.

  • If the figure is plump, then choose the fabric pattern so that it does not emphasize the flaws of the figure, but only hides them, since such a skirt visually enlarges the hips.
  • Before you start sewing a skirt, be sure to wash and iron the fabric; if this is not done during the first wash, the skirt may stretch. Synthetic fabrics do not require such preparation.
  • If you want the sun skirt to be even fuller, when cutting it, use a larger size of fabric and draw a larger inner and outer radius on the pattern to create folds. We distribute the folds evenly so that the skirt turns out neat and beautiful. Here, too, we must not forget about the correctly selected fabric, since not all types of fabric are suitable for this type of skirt. Lighter and flowing types of fabrics are suitable.

  • A sun skirt always pleases the eyes of people around you. This style of skirt can be sewn for both summer and winter. The main thing is to choose the right type of fabric. For a winter sun skirt you need to take woolen and knitted fabrics. For the summer version, chiffon, satin, etc. are used.
  • This skirt is very versatile, it can be worn with ballet flats, sandals, high heels, and small ones, with boots, over the knee boots or ankle boots. A sun skirt is always appropriate and original, and it will suit a woman of any age. Often such skirts are sewn for little girls. They look very neat and elegant on little princesses.

When sewing a skirt, you can use any trim. The decoration can be various laces, fabrics of a different color and even a completely different texture, appliqués, beads, etc. Try, fantasize, and the effect will be simply excellent!

Hello!

If straight skirts and their various modifications make a woman a woman, then flared skirts (conical) make her a woman to the highest degree.

Good day, dear sewing lovers! With this article I begin a series of publications dedicated to flared skirts. In today's article we will talk about the sun skirt (flared sun skirt).

The sun skirt is:

Versatility. Everyone wears sun skirts, both very young fashionistas who have just learned to walk, and mature ladies with vast life experience behind them.

Sun skirts look very good on girls as slender as a birch tree. They especially suit girls with the figure of a teenage boy. Sun skirts make their figures more feminine, their waists thin, and their hips rounded.

Girls with excessively wide hips are also happy; sun skirts with their soft waves visually neutralize the shortcomings of their figures.

Sun skirts are not taboo for overweight women either. But only for them it would be good to sew sun skirts from light, thin, flowing and soft fabrics that do not hold their shape. However, it should still be taken into account that the feature and advantage of the sun skirt over other flared skirts is its thick, cone-shaped folds coming from the waist. So it is better for overweight women to choose other types of flared skirts for their wardrobe.

Sun skirts can be made from a wide variety of materials.

A sun skirt can be part of a set made in a classic, romantic, business, etc. style.

A sun skirt (made from a suitable material) can be worn to a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, a party, a walk around the city, or to work.

Sun skirts can make a woman's image modest and sexy, innocent and seductive.

Comfortable to wear. Nothing restricts a woman’s movements if she is wearing a sun skirt. Moreover, in a sun skirt of any length you can freely perform even all kinds of ballet “Pas”.

All-season. Sun skirts (made of suitable material) can be worn all year round - winter, spring, summer and autumn.

Very easy to sew.

The sun skirt gets its name from the fact that when fully extended, it really looks a lot like a round sun.

Sun skirt pattern step by step.

To construct a drawing of a sun skirt, we will take the dimensional characteristics of size 50 (height 164 cm, 1st full group, chest volume - 100 cm, waist volume - 78.2 cm, hip volume - 104 cm (taking into account the protrusion of the abdomen)).

The sun skirt pattern is a circle with a round hole in the middle. The outer contour is the bottom of the skirt, the inner contour is the waist line. The distance between the contours is the length of the skirt. All that remains is to calculate the values of the radii that need to be used to draw these same circles.

There are several ways to calculate the digital data used to construct the sun skirt pattern. To perform calculations when constructing a pattern using all these methods, we will need measurements of the waist circumference (St or POT) and the length of the skirt.

And also (for method 1) an increase in the half-waist circumference.

1st option.

The radius for constructing the waist line is determined by the formula Rt = K (St + Pt), where St is the half-waist circumference, Pt is the increase to the half-waist circumference, and K is a coefficient depending on the degree of flare of the skirt.

K for the sun skirt is 0.32.

Using simple calculations, we determine the radius for constructing the waist line. Rt = 0.32 x (39.1 + 1.5) = 0.32 x 40.6 = 12.992 ≈ 13 cm. (You substitute your data).

The radius for constructing the waist line in method 1 is 13 cm.

2nd method.

Divide waist circumference (F) by 6 minus 1 cm.

Here it is 78.2/6 – 1 = 13.033 – 1 = 12.033 ≈ 12 cm. (You substitute your data).

The radius for constructing the waist line using the 2nd method is 12 cm.

3rd method.

Half waist circumference (W or W) divide by 3.

Here it is 39.1 /3 = 13.033 ≈ 13 cm. (You substitute your data).

The radius for constructing the waist line using the 3rd method is 13 cm.

However, we will take into account that the upper cut of the sun skirt is a curved line that simultaneously runs along all the threads of the fabric (lobar, transverse and oblique directions of the fibers). And, therefore, the skirt will have a highly stretchable, and at the same time perfectly ironable upper edge. Therefore, the radius values obtained by different methods and slightly different from each other for constructing the waist line can be considered the same. (Personally, I think method 1 is the most accurate).

If calculating the radius of the waist line for constructing a sun skirt pattern can be done in several ways, then calculating the radius of the bottom line of the sun skirt is done the same way for all methods.

Rн = Rт + Du, where Rн is the radius of the bottom line of the skirt, Rт is the radius of the waist line, and Du is the desired length of the skirt. Here Rн = 13 + 65 = 78 cm. (Rт = 13 data from the 1st calculation method).

The length of the sun skirt can be absolutely any. Mini skirts, with a length that just covers underwear and reach to the knees, are suitable for little girls, teenage girls and very slender young girls. Sun skirts, from below the knee to floor length, suit older girls and mature women.

As with all skirts, the sun skirt pattern is designed to fit half the figure.

From point C with radius (here Rt = 13 cm (1st method)) we draw an arc. We get the waist line.

From the same point C with a radius (here Rн = 78 cm (1st method)) we draw another arc and get a bottom line.

Using the resulting outline, cut out a pattern for a sun skirt from paper.

If there are no special tools, then large radii can be drawn using an ordinary tailor's measuring (centimeter) tape.

One of its edges is installed at the desired point on the edge.

A pencil or pen is clamped with tape at the desired mark.

If you want to save on paper or for a special layout on fabric, the sun skirt pattern can be constructed in a quarter circle.

Using the same radii Rt and Rn (here Rt = 13 cm, Rn = 78) we construct a quarter-circle pattern.

As I already said, sun skirts are made from different fabrics. Some of them hold their shape well, are not plastic and do not sag along the oblique threads under their weight.

To protect more plastic types of materials from deformation, you can:

  1. It is good to moisten the cut details of the skirt and hang them by the waistline until they are not completely dry. Then iron from the wrong side along the grain thread until completely dry.
  2. If it is immediately clear that the material from which the skirt is made is very plastic, then even at the stage of making the pattern, changes must be made to the contours of the future sun skirt. In places most susceptible to sagging (at an angle of 45⁰ to the lobe thread), the bend of the waist line can be reduced to a depth of 2 cm, the bottom line of the skirt to 7 cm (according to the model, based on the properties of the fabric).

This type of sun skirt requires a belt. The belt for the sun skirt is a rectangular cut piece with a fold in the middle and seam allowances (0.7 - 1.5 cm) on all four sides:

Width 2 – 4 cm (finished).

And the length is the length of the upper section of the skirt (measure ½ or ¼ of the pattern with a centimeter tape and multiply by 2 or 4, respectively) + 3 cm for the fastener.

It is not necessary to make a belt pattern for a sun skirt. But it is necessary to take into account its “presence” on the skirt at the stage of calculating the required amount of material for sewing the skirt. The belt should be cut along the longitudinal or transverse thread.

This kind of sun skirt must be made with seams (two, three, four (according to the model, optional, based on the properties of the fabric, its width and the type of layout on the fabric)). Because there must be a fastener in one of the seams of such a sun skirt. After all, women’s waist volume varies in size, but differs from the chest and hip volumes to a smaller extent. And without a fastener there is no way to wear such a sun skirt.

And in order to get a seam on the skirt, the pattern should be laid out correctly on the fabric. In this case, the seams must run along the longitudinal thread of the fabric (or at least along the transverse or longitudinal + transverse).

How can you lay out the sun skirt pattern on the fabric to create seams (two, three, four)?

The choice of layout method is influenced by:

  • skirt length;
  • the width of the existing piece of fabric;
  • and the desire of the person sewing the skirt to have one or another number of seams on it.

On the fabric in one layer from the wrong side, two mirror parts of ½ of the sun skirt pattern are laid out, outlined with seam allowances.

This layout is used primarily for plain fabrics, fabrics with small patterns, and fabrics without a pattern direction.

Layout – transverse fold. 1 piece is laid out on the fabric in two layers - ½ of the skirt pattern. This layout can be used when the pattern on the fabric is a checkered pattern, various stripes, and the patterns, designs, and ornaments have directions.

On the cross-fold layout, the front panel of the skirt is laid out at the fold of the fabric. Posterior – at transverse sections. (A quarter pattern is used).

Of course, the fewer seams on the sun skirt, the better. But there are situations when making four seams on a skirt simply cannot be avoided. They will have to be made when there are four suitable, equal or almost equal pieces of fabric available. For example, four cuts.

Four identical parts are cut out from each such piece of fabric.

How much fabric do you need for a sun skirt?

There is no universal formula that can be used to quickly and accurately determine the amount of fabric needed to make a sun skirt.

The amount of fabric that will be used to sew a sun skirt depends on:

  • from the planned length of the skirt;
  • the width of the fabric from which it is planned to be sewn;
  • from the method of laying out the details of the sun skirt pattern on the fabric;
  • and from the pattern on the fabric.

Therefore, before going to the fabric store for the required piece of fabric, it would be good to make a small copy of the skirt pattern on a notebook sheet. But write down all the calculations made in natural size.

In the store, after choosing a fabric, you need to pay attention to the width of its fabric.

And only by taking into account all the factors associated with sewing a sun skirt, you can plan something and somehow.

Sun skirt without a pattern.

Since the pattern of a sun skirt is quite simple to construct, and you will have to use quite a lot of paper for this construction, you can save money by drawing the contours of the future skirt directly on the fabric.

  1. Calculations are made to construct a sun skirt (see article above).
  2. We choose a method for laying out the details of the skirt pattern on the fabric (see above in the article).
  3. And directly on the fabric with marking tools we draw the contours of the skirt.

How to sew a sun skirt? (scheme)

  1. Seam(s) being made. The seam(s) are pressed or pressed.
  1. Performed in the middle seam of the rear panel, or in the seam on the left side (according to the model, if desired).
  2. Running belt and a fastener on the belt (, button, etc.)
  3. (countless ways). But the bottom of the sun skirt is processed only after it has hung for several days in a suspended, vertical position. And the person sewing the skirt will be convinced that its lower cut is even along the entire length of the circle.

Types of sun skirts.

Multilayer sun skirt.

The sun skirt can be multi-layered. It can be two and indefinitely (according to the model) skirts of different lengths or one. From the same material or from different ones.

All layers of a multi-layered sun skirt are “gathered” under one belt. But the bottom of each of them is processed separately.

High-waisted sun skirt.

A sun skirt can be made with a high waistline. To do this, when cutting, the belt part is made wider, up to 20 - 30 cm wide + seam allowances around the perimeter. 10 – 15 cm when finished.

Sun skirt with straps.

If desired, straps can be attached to the sun skirt. The straps are very similar to a belt. These are also rectangular parts with a fold, the width of the model, as desired, only the short transverse sides of the straps remain unattached and are stitched to the skirt waistband in front with one side and in the back with the other. The length of the straps is to measure the figure from the waist line in front, over the shoulder to the waist line in the back.

Sun skirt with a figured bottom.

The bottom of the sun skirt can be made curly (according to the model, if desired). For example, like this - in the form of an equal number of scallops along the edge.

Another type of sun skirts are skirts with an offset center.

The calculation and construction of a pattern for such a skirt is carried out in exactly the same way as for a regular sun skirt (see above in the article).

But then the semicircle (½ the waist line) shifts to the desired side, according to the model or at will.

Depending on which direction the waistline moves and how the pattern is laid out, the oval notch on the skirt fabric will be located in front of the model

Good luck to all! Sincerely, Milla Sidelnikova!
